I think my thermometer sucks

Today is CD 25/5DPO and i took my temp this morning at 6:50am as I always do and it was 97.1.  So i double checked the number made sure I was looking at it right and yes it was 97.1.  So a few seconds later I checked again, thinking my temp should be the same, right?  No, it was 97.6.  So I checked again in a few seconds. 98.0 was my new temp.  Is that normal, or is my thermometer not working?  I was laying down the whole time so I wasn't walking around or anything.

On another note, I am trying to add my cm for everyday to FF, and yesterday i had yellow EWCM.  Does EWCM have to be clear?  What would I select at my CM option?

  1. I haven't actually started taking my temp yet but from what I have read, they say you need to record your waking temperature because shortly after you wake up it will start to increase and you want to take the temp consistently so that you are comparing apples to apples so to speak. So I don't think it's all that surprising that your temp went up... just the fact that you were second guessing the original temperature could likely cause some stress to your body and therefore increase your temperature? Again, I'm just guessing, but it doesn't seem too weird to me?

Which thermometer do you have? I need to get one... I've looked at the Walmart near me and Shoppers Drug Mart and neither place had them.

Re: the CM. I think it depends on the consistency of it - was it actually EWCM? I don't think it's uncommon to have creamy CM with a yellow tinge... agian though I'm not an expert.

  2. Need to take your Temp at resting status - so that needs to be the first thing when you open your eyes. I keep my cellphone right there and enter in my temps via FF app. You can also keep a pen and notepad close if you need to do that as well. I think your thermometer is right on track! :) But good luck - if you think something is wrong you can always go pick up another one, their pretty inexpensive!

  3. It may be the method you're using... Taking an oral temp is not as straight forward as it may seem. You have to get in the right position under the tongue where it is hotest. Your temp can vary HUGELY if you don't put in the right place or move it around a lot. Have a look at this: http://www.covidien.com/imageServer.aspx?contentID=11750&contenttype=application/pdf It explains it perfectly.

The next thing is that once you open your mouth it changes the temperature and things like sleeping with your mouth open can change things as well.

Anyway, all of those reasons are why I temp vaginally. It is seriously hard to screw up that way because you have to literally spread your legs wide open to let air rush in and so long as the tip is in, the temp is constant no matter the depth. :-)

Having said all that, there is a possibility that what you are looking at is an implantation dip which is good news. :-) See what happens over the next few days! Good luck!

  4. I have a cheapie thermometer, around $20. DH went to Walmart for me and got one. I think I might go and splurge on a better one.
