Baby Purchases

I thought I would make a list of what we have so far for Mason.  I am pretty sure we have everything we need but this is our first baby so I could have no clue and be missing a lot of stuff.

highchair
stroller
car seat, car seat cover and a fitted think blanket (it will be quite cold here in February/March around -15 C)
mirror for car seat to be attached on the seat so we can see Mason from the front seats
crib, dresser, lamp
change table
baby monitor (the ibaby monitor which is pretty neat if anyone is an iphone user)
diapers (newborns and size 1)
wipes
baby bag (travel size wipes, baby powder, change pad to go)
baby medical kit (clippers, etc)
thermometer
little tub for baths with a sling to go in the tub
baby oil, shampoo
bouncer
receiving blankets (15ish)
lots of clothes (newborns, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9)

Am I missing anything?

  1. Nappy/barrier cream (good thing to have on hand if you find early that bub has sensitive skin and gets a sore bottom).

Nappy sacks (not sure you have them over there but basically scented plastic bags where you can throw your used nappy plus dirty wipes in together before sticking them in the bin).

    Nappy bin?

    Play mat

Dummy/Pacifier (even if you don't intend to use it, have one or two just in case - some mums find this to be a life saver for a bub who wants to suck until they bleed!!)

Are you breast feeding or bottle feeding? If breast feeding you will want to look at a breast pump so you can express and hand off some milk to your man to do or family if you want to go out. Regardless, if you express or formula feed a supply of bottles plus sterilising equipment is a must.

If you are breast feeding and particularly self conscious, a cover may be something you may wish to consider but by no means a necessity!

Baby paracetamol (or whatever pain relief you get over there - won't be able to be used in first six weeks but that is good to have on hand if bub does get sick or is unsettled without reason which you think may be pain related. One for home and for your nappy bag is generally the way to go.)

Get yourself a bunch of burp cloths. They good to have around the house and in the car and in the nappy bag. Babies make mess. From everywhere. Having those handy means mopping up or at least containing the mess is much easier!

May be good also to look into having a sling or a carrier. There are times when pushing a pram around gets complicated by too many people or stairs and tight spaces or just the type of terrain you're on. A sling is a great way to keep you hands free while carrying bub. These are also really good when bub is having a big sad day and just wants you but you really need to get on with your day.
